Licensing

GCC nationals can drive on their home license. Visitors from most countries need an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their home license.

Speed limits

  • 60 km/h in residential areas
  • 80–100 km/h on city roads
  • 120 km/h on most highways (signposted)

Speed cameras are common and fines are strictly enforced.

Roundabouts

Oman uses roundabouts heavily. Yield to traffic already in the circle and signal when exiting.

Fuel

Petrol is cheap by international standards — around R.O. 0.230/litre for Mumtaz 95. All stations are full-service.

Off-road

A 4x4 is essential for wadis and the desert. Tell someone your route and carry extra water.
